June Update

Last night, after the Wednesday prayer service, 10-year-old David walked up to me. “Can I say Psalm 100 to you, Pastor?” As he stood there in his t-shirt, and thick glasses, he recited the entire psalm perfectly. Four years ago, David, his sister, Paula, and the kids in his neighborhood had never been to church. We started a summer Bible club in the park outside his apartment building. Four years later, David and the other kids have shown tremendous changes. Many have accepted Christ and attend our church faithfully. They even ask to come to the adult Bible study on Wednesdays. Four years ago, some of them could barely read and didn’t know how to use a Bible. Now, they can look up verses, read Scripture out loud, and memorize entire chapters! Thank You, God, for working in their lives.

This year, David is old enough to attend camp. He can’t wait! He and the other kids in our church are completing a 5-step challenge to win a scholarship to Bible camp. They must attend church, memorize verses, read Bible passages, do an act of service, and write a note to their sponsor. They are working hard and looking forward to camp.

Now, we have a challenge for you:

Would you consider sponsoring a camper this summer? Last year, several individuals and churches sponsored eleven campers. It was a huge blessing to us, and at least four of those campers made professions of faith. Most of the kids going to camp come from unchurched families that have very little money, but they have been working hard through the scholarship program to “earn” their way to camp.

If you are able to and choose to help, you will receive a personal, handwritten letter from the child or teenager you sponsored, in addition to their picture and a link to see a video recap of the week of camp. Giving is easy. You can give by credit card or check online through our mission agency by simply following this link. Any amount is appreciated, but $50 covers the cost of one camper.

Sponsor a camper (2)

Even more important than sponsoring a camper is praying for camp. Please pray for us especially from July 7-11.

  • Pray for a spiritual awakening and for a good spirit among the campers.
  • Pray that God would help us as we teach different sessions throughout the day.
  • Pray for safety for the campers, and that God would be glorified in everything that is done.

Thank you for your part in making summer camp 2015 a success for God’s glory. May God bless and strengthen you throughout your summer.
